When did you start working in the field of Infertility?

I was lucky enough to begin working at Cha Fertility Center as a clinical coordinator in 2005. I was introduced to all aspects of reproductive endocrinology and infertility. I quickly learned about calendars, medications, lab processes, IVF, IUI, and third-party IVF cycles from mentors who are now leaders in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. I worked with incredible embryology and clinical teams that practiced the art of infertility all around the world, including South Korea, New York, Texas, Lebanon, Armenia, and Japan. I was exposed to research teams from Harvard University, Cha Medical School, and clinics from all over Asia.

I began working with international patients early on in my career. I learned that different countries have different laws and regulations pertaining to infertility treatment and medications available, which presented challenges for our patients. Collaborating with our clinical team to create and use alternative medication to complete IVF and Third-party cycles worldwide felt like an amazing accomplishment that helped me transition to becoming the founder of Simple Steps Fertility. I gained the experience and knowledge to fully understand the field and provide support where I felt other agencies failed. I wanted to provide a higher standard of care for patients going through such an emotional journey both abroad and within local communities.

As a founder, having worked with thousands of patients locally and internationally, it has helped me develop a global view of infertility. Not only have I gained the knowledge and training that helps me efficiently coordinate Egg Donor and Surrogacy cycles, but I also help patients gain a deeper understanding of the process. It is part of our mission at SSF to provide education and support throughout the journey for both intended parents, egg donors, and surrogates. The experience that I have gained throughout the years working as a clinical provider helps with the bumps along the road. I think that the most important and unique part of Simple Steps Fertility is that medical knowledge, clinical experience, and cultural sensitivity collide in one place.

What is a special moment you remember working in this field

There are countless unforgettable moments throughout my career, but some of the most memorable involve the challenging cases that resulted in the birth of healthy babies. As an Armenian immigrant, it was particularly rewarding to help Armenian families overcome the negative stigma associated with third-party reproduction and find joy in the families they were able to create through egg donation or surrogacy.

One such case involved a donor who produced more than 20 eggs during the retrieval process, but none of them fertilized the next day. It was a devastating outcome for a healthy donor with children of her own. Despite the many factors that could have contributed to this result, the embryology team recommended rescue ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection), which resulted in the creation of a single embryo on Valentine’s Day. This was life-changing news for a family who had exhausted their financial resources in the United States with the singular dream of having a child.

Nine long months later, their persistence and faith were rewarded as they welcomed a beautiful, healthy baby into the world. Witnessing the profound joy and gratitude on their faces is something that I will never forget. These moments are why I am so passionate about my work in the field of reproductive endocrinology and infertility. Helping families create the families of their dreams is more than just a job to me, it is a calling.
